Most clogged drain calls we take across York Region come down to a snake or a jet. What is in the pipe, and what the pipe is made of, decide which.
Our drain snaking service uses a motor-driven steel cable, light for a vanity branch and heavy for the main line, fed through a cleanout or the fixture until the head bores through the plug or snags the hair. Running water proves it. It leaves a channel as wide as the head, with the wall coating still in place.
A jetter sends high-pressure water through a hose to a nozzle matched to the pipe. Rear-facing jets pull the hose along and scour the whole wall as a forward jet breaks the blockage, washing away grease, soap film, silt and soft scale. A fully stopped drain gets a cable first, so the water has somewhere to go. Scouring the wall itself is what hydro jetting in York Region is for.
Usually. Plastic lines in newer subdivisions take it well. But many post-war homes in Thornhill and North York drain through thin, scaled cast iron and clay laterals with cracked or shifted joints, where full pressure can widen a crack or wash soil from around a break. There the camera goes in first, and the footage decides: lower pressure, a gentler nozzle, or a cable now and a repair later. See drain cleaning in Thornhill and drain cleaning in North York.
We push a waterproof camera down from the cleanout while you watch the screen with us, noting the distance to a grease shelf, roots at a joint, a crack or a stretch where water sits. A transmitter in the head lets a surface locator mark that spot and its depth. The footage picks the tool and nozzle, and sometimes shows cleaning is not the answer.
Heavy clay under many Vaughan homes swells and shrinks with the seasons, and soft marsh soil around Bradford and the Holland Marsh settles, so buried lines sag into dips. The dip, called a belly, holds water where paper and grease drop out. A snake or a jet clears it, but the belly refills, and a broken section traps debris the same way. The lasting fix is sewer line repair on that length.
You get a written price up front, based on:
A drain that clogs twice in a season needs a camera, not another cable run. Grease or scale on sound pipe: jet it, and in a restaurant kitchen let the footage set the cleaning interval. Roots back at the same joint: plan the repair. A belly or a break: clean it to buy time, then fix the pipe. Unsure which drain it is?
